Synapedia is an independent knowledge project about psychoactive substances and harm reduction. If the platform helps you learn something new, you can support its development.
Every bit helps keep the project alive.
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic and NMDA receptor antagonist used in clinical anesthesia and being actively investigated as a rapid-acting treatment for treatment-resistant depression. At sub-anesthetic doses it produces dissociative, analgesic, and psychedelic effects.
Dextromethorphan (DXM) is an NMDA receptor antagonist and sigma-1 receptor agonist found in many over-the-counter cough medications. At supra-therapeutic doses it produces dissociative and psychedelic states similar in character to ketamine and PCP.
The Synapedia Comparison Tool presents two psychoactive substances side by side — comparing pharmacological class, mechanisms of action, receptor profiles, and risk ratings. Similarities and differences become immediately visible.
Check drug interactions in the Interaction Checker or explore all substances in the Knowledge Graph.
